SDDT Outreach Programs

San Diego Dance Theater's outreach initiatives aim to embody our core values of curiosity, creativity, passion, connection, and empowerment. Your support enables us to eliminate obstacles that hinder members of our community from engaging with the transformative power of dance.

Aging Creatively: Meaningful Movement Outreach

SDDT is thrilled to re-initiate our outreach program in January of 2025 to seniors that find themselves in senior homes or centers that do not have access to regular movement classes. Our mission is to bring movement experiences that breathe life to our region as SDDT strives to create movement opportunities for people of all ages. With the history and experience that SDDT has building programs and offering events, we are confident and optimistic that this program can be vibrant and nourishing to more seniors in our region.

Expressive Moving Arts: Movement Healing for Foster Youth

Since 2022, San Diego Dance Theater (SDDT) has offered movement and wellness classes in addition to free access to live dance and performance art events with the young people, ages 12-17 who reside in the San Diego Youth Services Storefront Youth Emergency Shelter. In 2025 we will continue to implement somatic healing, body awareness, sound healing, positive coping skills, dance training, connection to a professional community, and educational institutions to create a pathway to wellness through the arts and movement. Expressive movement can promote the overall health and well-being of the youth affected by homelessness and other destabilizing conditions.

Summer Workshop Scholarships

SDDT provided $10,000 in scholarships for talented pre-professional and professional local artists seeking training in Modern dance and proactive conditioning techniques to support and maintain their dancing bodies.

Trolley Dances "Kids on Board" Workshops & Free Performances

Kids on Board offers an immersive experience for over 350 K-12 students in San Diego County, providing free site-specific dance performances and workshops annually. Our mission emphasizes diversity, which is central to our efforts. With open auditions and a diverse cast of dancers, choreographers, and teaching artists, "Trolley Dances" showcases the rich variety found in the San Diego region. We want students in the Kids On Board program to recognize themselves in our professional artists, sparking their interest and possibly considering careers in the arts.
