Children's Classes

At San Diego Dance Theater, our goal is to create a safe, welcoming, and non-competitive environment for beginning dancers between the ages of 2-8 years. Our Creative Movement classes for ages 2-3 focus on integrating playful and imaginative activities into dance lessons, and allowing dancers the opportunity to express themselves through movement. For ages 4-5, we offer Ballet/Tap, Hip Hop, and Ballet/Jazz. While play-based activities are still utilized in this age group (ex: obstacle courses, use of props, etc), dancers will start to learn more about specific elements of each style of dance. In the 6-8 age group, we continue to offer Ballet/Tap, Hip Hop, and Ballet/Jazz. Dancers will develop their knowledge, expanding their understanding of skills such as spatial awareness, sense of rhythm, coordination, and choreography. All of our age groups are invited and encouraged to perform with their class in our Spring Showcase each year!
