bkSOUL/Collective Purpose - "Illegible"

Directed by Ant Black, Dr. grace shinhae jun, and Dr. Jesse Mills, Illegible is a collaborative project that addresses the acrimony and injustice around the #Black LivesMatter movement. Through the culture of hip-hop, the scholarship of Mark Anthony Neal, and the narrative of each performer, bkSOUL and Collective Purpose explore the meaning of illegibility with poetry, music, and dance.

bkSOUL is a performance company that seeks to create community and promote positive expressions of hip hop culture as an accessible vehicle for activism, resistance to oppression and racism, and social change. Directed by Dr. grace shinhae jun, bkSOUL grooves in different movement traditions but primarily bridges hip hop and contemporary dance techniques.

Collective Purpose’s mission is to elevate, edutain, and enlighten through words and performance. Organizers of ELEVATED, Collective Purpose understands the transformative power of art and is committed to utilizing creative expression as a means to inspire others to become truth seekers, truth speakers, and positive change agents.
